Sunny Monday

Its such a nice sunshiny day today. It snowed again last night but only an inch or so. I guess we have 14 inches on the ground now. Up north they have 45 inches so we are lucky. Its going to take awhile to melt I guess but I don't think that will start to happen til the end of the month or so. You should see some of the snow banks in the parking lots around town... seems to me it will take til July for them to melt, lol
If there were 6 more weeks til winter last week on groundhogs day that means there are only 5 more left.... Its already going fast so I had better hurry and get my winter project finished as I don't want to be stuck in the house for a minute too long come spring. I haven't been looking at the seed catalogs yet but I did buy 2 packages of heavenly blue morning glories at the store the other day... They do the best for me and I love that color!

I hope the sun is shinning on everyone today, take care!

Lazy day

I am just taking it easy today, good day for it too. I made a nice pot of chili and we ate almost all of it already. It sure hit the spot. My husband had gone fishing and my son ice skating so they really enjoyed it. I am just puttering and crocheting and playing with my pets. The sun is shinning today and the ice on the driveway is melting. I don't mind the snow but the ice is not good. I won't go walking with so much ice on the side roads. I got a new pair of boots yesterday that should help but still I don't want to fall on the ice. I almost fell just getting my mail accross the street. Maybe its just an excuse to be lazy as my neighbors go for their walks everyday. ;)

Shoveling snow

We got our snow! I just came in from shoveling it. I did the patio and the paths in the back and then helped Leo shovel the driveway. Its nice and warm and not blowing so it was just nice exercise. We got about 7 1/2 Inches so far with more falling. They figure we will get only 2 more inches and then the plows will come and then the hard part of shoveling will start. Its usually pretty deep and this time will probably be at least 2 feet high in the front of the driveway and mailbox. You can't just throw it you have to walk to a spot to throw it with each shovel full. Its going to get pretty warm today though ~ about 32. That means it will get heavier as it gets warmer so I'm glad we got most of it finished already.

Snow Storm

We are waiting for the snow storm. I don't think it will be the big one yet but we will see. Its going to stay pretty warm so that is a good indication of more I think. So far I heard it could be anywhere from 1 to 11 inches. My favorite weatherman says up to 6 so it will probably be at least 3 for my area. I think southeast of us will be getting more... can't wait to find out. I took a nap this afternoon to get me in shape for shoveling. They say when you get older you should shovel as its snowing so you don't have to shovel it all at once. Thats a good idea unless you know someone who will come over with their snow blower. We don't.

Another winter day

It was another winter day but the sun was shinning all day and it was rather cheerful although it was -6 this morning and didn't get very warm all day. We got a little shopping done because we are expecting another snow storm tomorrow some time. Leo is making cabinets for out in the garage. I was going to buy them but he decided to make them and he is on the second one already. I wanted 3 so we each have a place to put our things and the garage will look neater. I still haven't started painting my cabinet doors in the family room. I guess I have to get into the mood or something. Maybe vitimins would work so I get more energy.... I will have to try that.
I hope everyone had a nice day today and the sun is shinning for you!

Just laying around

We were just laying around last night watching it snow. It was a beautiful night, nice and warm and the snow was covering everything. It makes everythig so beautiful and gives you a nice warm safe feeling for some reason. No reason to get up so we just relaxed around the fire place. Charlie knows how to relax better than anyone though. He wins the prize. Then he gets up and jumps on the table where my flowers are and starts to eat the babies breath. Can you imagine this sweet relaxing kitty being naughty? Believe me though when I tell you he can be a sassy sassy boy. We love him anyway though.
Yesterday it got up to 32 and was melting before we got 2 and 1/2 more inches of snow. But like I said it is beautiful and we do expect it so its fine. We haven't begun yet to think of planting anything outside. It will be another 6 weeks I think before we will be going out and seeing what flowers are popping up....  the chindoxia and crocus are usually the first then the daffodils and tulips.... We do still have a few weeks left to finish up our work we started this winter~ my afghan, and the painting of my little doors and my chair. The chair is rather messy Im finding out so I will stop and finish it in the spring when I can take it out in the yard to finish. I always think its going to be so easy to strip furniture until I get started.
I hope everyone is having a nice day! Stay happy!

Groundhog day

I got up early today to make sure that darn groundhog doesn't see his shadow. Yesterday it was a beautiful day and got all the way up to 29* so I think our bitter cold has finally left us. At least January is over and I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Yesterday after church we went to breakfast with our daughter and her husband and their daughter... that was nice! Then we went to Younkers to check it out. Its been in the mall for several months now and we hadn't gone there yet. It is a nice store but I think I will only buy things when they go on sale as its a little pricey but the sales are great. I got a nice pair of slacks. After that we went to Fleet Farm and I looked around and then got the things I need to paint the little doors in my family room ( the ones under the book shelves)
We got home just in time for a little visit from Rick and Carley. They had been sledding on the hills by our house and having a good time. I guess a lot of families were there. Carley and I played a little game and I got some exercise. I think I would really be quite thin if she were here more often. That little girl sure has a lot of energy!
Today is my birthday and I will be drinking my tea out of a new groundhog day mug I just got for the occasion. I sent for it along with the poster and banner all the way from the home of the groundhog in Penn. We have to get our smiles any way we can, don't we?  ;) I hope everyone has a great day!
The groundhog here in SunPrarie Wis did not see his shadow as its very cloudy here today.  I may add its 28* here this morning also. So I guess that means we will have an early spring. In 6 weeks or so we should be seeing grass again but will have to wait until the end of April to have leaves on the trees and that is 3 months away yet.... we will have flowers coming up way before that though and I can hardly wait.
