Another sunny day

I had some nice throw rugs in front of my washer and dryer but the other day they got wrinkled and I tripped and fell so we decided it was time to get something better. These 2 rugs lay nice and flat and are rubber backed.. should be good to prevent any shocks etc.. I also got a nice new waste basket. the pan there is the kitty litter and the chair has a nice soft blanket on it for the cat. Charlie likes going downstairs every day to take a nap so I have 3 chairs with blankets on to keep him cozy... I washed the other rugs and am giving them to St V's as they are in good shape yet.. They say most of the accidents happen in the home so I am trying to prevent them. Hope this works for me.
Today was a nice day for shopping. We got almost everything on my list so it was a good day. I ate 300 calories too much today though so will have to do better with that... starting tonight... I lost 10#s so far and want to keep it going...
We might get a little snow this week end but the weather is warming up ~ wonderful!!!!! The roads are so nice and clear now but that will change too. darn... its so nice to have a nice shinny clean car... but I know better. There is so much salt built up on the roads now that as soon as it starts to melt or snow it will start splashing on the cars again with no chance of getting them washed.  If you have a nice clean car, be grateful... :>)
Have a nice night,
Sandra

Day out with 3 of my sisters

I had a wonderful time with my sisters today ~ all but Janice as she had to work... Its getting hard to get all 5 of us together these days but we decided to go anyway  and  some days someone won't be able to go and then the next time maybe someone else won't but its better than not going at all I guess...
We started this morning going to a bakery for coffee and sweet rolls and I got a loaf of bread there too. Then we went to the thrift store where i found the cute little brass ornaments. We then went to a new store to find the hand made table cloth and tatted hankies... I found some good things today and enjoyed being with my sisters too. I would have never gone alone and I wait for the days when we get together.... We also went to a little restaurant, bakery for lunch where we sat and talked and had a sandwich...  Oh and we went to a candy store too.... I was good and did not buy anything. A almost first for me I guess... the good smells and pretty things for sale were enough for me there.  I'm blessed to have my sisters and count my blessings often.
It was cold today but nice and sunny and the roads were nice and clear too... its going to be warming up but that means some more snow too... Doesn't look like we are going to get a lot though so that is good too. January is almost over.... Yeh
Hope every one has a nice sunny day tomorrow,
Sandra

Warming Up

So I lied in my last journal entry... I tried to put another picture in. Just one this time though and one of the ones I had in here in my last entry. Wonder how long it will stay.

We are getting warmer weather now and pretty soon the snow will be melting. It is melted off our street and the driveway and patio are clear and dry today. I even went out and swept the garage. Was so nice outside for a change. I guess it went up to 32 today. Iam looking forward to spring already. Won't be too much longer now.... the worst part of winter is probably over.  Leo even went to get my car washed today. Now I can touch it again. it sure gets dirty when it snows and there is salt all over the roads. Hope they are all dry now for awhile. Now mabe we can start living again instead of just surviving.  We are so lucky we didn't get the 36 inches like New England states got. My little dogs were so happy today that they kept wanting to go out and Charlie even went out... He was a bit surprised at the deep cold snow though and I didn't go and get him and bring him in. I told him he had to come himself as I didn't want to get my boots on.. Well it didn't take him long to decide he was coming in. I gave him a little treat for coming in so nice then... His turn will be coming soon and he will be running around the back yard again. He also likes the screen door open but there is a storm door there now so the only fresh air he gets is in our bedroom window when we are sleeping or when the door opens. January is almost over, Hip Hip Hooray!

Snow storm Eric

The pictures say a thousand words so I don't have to. :>) Im going to go and make lunch and then sit and read a bit.
Gary is going out in the snow with his car.... he likes driving on the road with his old car after it snows.... Hope he is careful.......
I'm angry and probably won't be trying to add pictures anymore. I had pictures in here and they are gone. don't know why as they are still on my computer and I didn't delete them.  I get much too frustrated adding pictures in here and its not worth it. Sorry everyone but its not my fault but aols this time Iam sure...

Here is a thought for today on my calendar....
"View the events you consider obstacles as perfect opportunities to test your resolve and find your purpose."
Pretty good thought for us on this snowy day isn't it.
I have to go and finish my laundry now and catch up on my reading.
hope you are all having a wonderful day,
Sandra

Starting of a snow storm

Our big snow storm is starting so Leo is getting ready to go to the grocery store. I can't go as my diet caused me to get a flare up of my gout. Its the pits. Now I have to plan a different diet and this one was working so well. I should have know but they put a lot of soy in the meals and there is beef and I haven't eaten any red meat for a few years... Its not on the gout diet my doctor gave me but I figured I would give it a try anyway since I have not had any problems for a long time and I was only going to eat a little. I thought wrong....... Now I can't walk and Leo has to get my things for me at the store... I hope he follows my list to a T or we will have food in the house neither one of us can eat. Its hard to plan a diet without meat, fish, cheese, or beans, but Im going to try. I can have eggs and cottage chees and once a week chicken or bacon if cooked the right way. Not supposed to lose weight too fast either and must drink lots of water... Im going to give it my best. We shall see.
We are supposed to get a "lot" of snow today and tomorrow, the kind where you have to wait for the plow to go through or you stay home. Maybe I will get some pictures tomorrow and put them up for you to see... I have a good book and my knitting and some old movies to watch so thats what I will be doing. My housework is pretty much taken care of so that won't be a problem. Leo will vacuum. I gave him that job a few weeks ago already... He likes a clean carpet so that is a good job for him, lol  We must share things, right?  :>) Something tells me I will be more than happy to do it though as soon as I can walk without the pain in my toe. I do have some pain pills for gout that help sometimes though. :)
Hope everyone is finding this day good and the sun is shinning for you, Sandra

Sunshine

Its only 60 days til Spring I read somewhere...... that isn't too bad now is it. It was a beautiful Spring like day today, at least it felt that way after the bitter cold we have been having. We had snow last night and probably it will snow again tonight. But we went to the store today and it was downright beautiful outside. I bet it got up to 25. You really appreciate nice weather after the -0 and below that we have been having.
I got a little dirt devil scrubber today because Leo likes machines and the dogs have been having accidents lately... well not so many but to hear Leo yell about it you would think. He doesn't think I clean them good enough, ya right.... He tried to clean one yesterday because he said I don't get it all out.... (usually takes me 2 tries) so he did it and he didn't get any of the stain out of the white carpet... Having a white carpet makes you have to get it "all"...  So I figured I would buy him a machine. He likes the idea and as soon as we got home he got after the stain and got it "all" out. I never liked that job and now he has something to do around here. haha  Actually now that its getting a little warmer it probably won't happen again but we are prepared... Little chihuahua's don't make a very big spot but a little yellow circle on a white rug looks pretty bad...
My diet is going pretty good. Actually its going very good as I have lost 8 pounds so far and am getting used to eating right and less. Oh and even using my easy glider. I will be in shape this summer I think to enjoy my flower gardens.
Hope its warming up by you and the sun is shinning.

BRRRRRRRR

The picture is of Mindy wearing the mittens I made her. She said she likes them but I still am not satisfyed with the way they turned out and am making some of a different yarn. Im glad she is wearing them though as they were frustrating to make and now worth it.
We had a pretty cold night again last night at -9 and will be -10 tonight and wind chills about -25 to -30. We have been having this weather for a few days now so when this spell is over it should be all uphill from here... supposed to get up to 20 by Wednesday. A regular heat wave, right?
Today the sun is shinning so its a beautiful day.. I haven't decided yet what to do today, if I don't do anything active I will be on my glider exercising anyway. Maybe reading and knitting too... Maybe I will clean out a cupboard or something too. I have to keep busy for awhile.
Hope its warmer by you.... I will bet it is :>)  Sandra

Mittens

I finished Mindys mittens. I had to make 3 though to get it right and they aren't  that great. I blame that darn homespun yarn. Can't be my fault can it? I am now making some more with a different yarn and different size needles.. think they will fit Leo so I have one more chance to get it right I guess. One of my sisters is copying her pattern for me and Janice is looking for one too. Eventually I will get it right ... now I remember why its been so long since I made mittens. I want to get it right though once and for all and copy my favorite pattern and put the others away. I think it would be something good to do this summer and then when fall comes I will be able to give them to the mitten sharing tree. Sounds good anyway.
Its too cold out to do much of anything else anyway. I do need to get to church tomorrow and to the store for a few things. It would also be nice if I got a haircut. The last time I got it cut she didn't cut it short enough, I wish those girls would listen to me. Now it looks so shaggy. I guess they think thats a good style but not my style, darn it anyway... Its as frustrating as trying to make the mittens come out the way I want, LOL
I think I will go and finish reading my book. At least that is the way I like them to be. :) Actually it was  a nice quiet day today. Just nice!
Hope your day was nice too, Sandra

Friday, January 14, 2005

Its a nice sunny day today so I got a lot done already this morning. I finished putting everything away from Christmas... you know all the little do dads that were still hiding around the house. I did some housework and even got a little exerciseing in this morning... I feel so good and the scale is coming down .... hip hip hooray!

I am doing laundry now and I think I will try and finish at least one of Mindys mittens this afternoon and start another... It would be good if I could finish and give them to her this weekend when she comes home... Its so cold out and they might keep her hands warm as she is walking around on campus.

Hope everyone is havinga  sunny day, Sandra

Getting Cold now

What can I say about this picture. The shovels are waiting for more snow.... and it will come too. We finally have the cord put away and all the christmas lights and decorations all taken care of for another year. It warmed up so we could get the cord out of the snow and the stakes out of the ground. Now we are going to get really really really cold. -7 tonight and -12 tomorrow night and not higher than the 28 it is now for a few days. only up to 5 tomorrow and 2 the next day. Anyone want to trade your weather with us?  It will only last a week or so and then the temps will begin to rise "slowly" or so the weather man says. January has the coldest days and its always nice to get them out of the way.I noticed its getting windy now so that means the cold is coming.... brrrrrr.
My diet is going well and its only day 5 but I lost 5#s. I know it won't come off this nice after awhile but its going to come off. :>)one way or the other. I hope your new years resolution is coming along fine also.
Have a great day, Sandra

Hi,

Another winter day has passed and it was GOOD
I guess Im getting lazy though as I haven't posted any pictures
lately... sorry about that but summer is a much better time for
pictures... I will try harder  though
Today we went to the post office and the craft store and then to the garden store... Had to check to see what was going on there at this time of year... Lot of junk for sale from Christmas and cleaning up and putting new stuff out... mostly cleaning up and not much new. I bought a pretty pot to put my plant in though and it fit and looks nicer now. I also got some yarn and a pair of needles to knit some mittens. I decided 2 needle mittens is what Im going to do this year. Usually do the 4 but for some reason I haven't got the patience for that this year... I have a good start on Mindys mittens, I want to get them finished for the week end when she comes home. She said its really cold walking from building to building at Collage and would like some mittens and she even gave me the yarn.... there lies the problem as it is a hard yarn to work with. I almost have one finished now so there is hope I can make them. Im reading a good book to so we shall see.
Tonight its supposed to warm up a little and rain and by morning it should have turned to ice and then snow, not good. Tomorrow should be a hard day to get out and drive. We are lucky we don't have to but so many do. I hope the salt trucks go out early so there aren't any accidents.

Packers lost

I really am not sad the Packers lost. It would have been nice but.....
I felt better today so I went to church and even to the store after. I had to exchange a sweater I got last week, lol I only got some blank cd's for my pictures on my computer and came home... It was nice to get dressed and go out for a change. Now I hope to do the same tomorrow as I need groceries and have to go to the pet store.
I also have to take the tree down, finally. They took the trees and the decorations down at church today but I don't work on Sunday's LOL Tomorrow is soon enough. Tom and Cindy came over with Christmas gifts from Mike and Teri and they got me the sweetiest ornaments from Disney. I figured I would put them on the tree for one day and pack them away with the rest. Glad I got them in time so I remember where they are next year. One is a cinderella's castle and one is pixie dust in a cute little container and one is a tweetie bird and fporgot already what the other one is but they are really special.  Got a few more things too and Leo got a nice fleece disney shirt... Nice to get late Christmas presents!
I watched the peoples choice awards and I pretty much liked all who won but I think Tom Hanks should have won... I noticed some are shows I don't watch though... must be getting a younger crowd I guess. Tv isn't always on the top of my list though. Im Glad David Letterman won and also Mel Gibsons movie... Seems like the ones I wanted to see though didn't come to the show.  Who won the daytime talk show? was it Ellen or Oprah... see I didn't even watch all of it. I saw Ellen winning something but don't know if it was the best show... can't believe operah didn't win again or did she decline .... I don't usually watch her either... coarse I don't watch ellen either so there. Must be busy at that time of day.
Charlie my cat is sitting on the sewing machine watching me type and falling asleep. He is so pretty and such a lover at this time of night. Likes to be held and petted and I suppose he wonders why Im on the computer.... I wonder too as its late. So good night and have a nice tomorrow, Sandra

Not much going on

Not much going on around here today. My cold is getting better. I think it will be better when the redness goes away around my nose... Tomorrow I will even get dressed... its nice not to have to dress up though. I always feel guilty not dressing etc first thing in the morning... I'm finding my new robe is the most comfortable thing ever though so maybe there will be other days I won't want to dress right away, LOL
I still haven't gotten to the library to get the books I had on hold so I will probably do that on Monday.... I hope. I also start my new diet on Monday.... this one is going to be the one that works. :) Today Iam reading up on it and getting ready by not eating so much. Tomorrow I will weigh myself to see what the starting weight is... I don't think I will be broadcasting that but I will probably tell how much Iam losing from time to time. I started gaining my weight back when my son came to visit and then more when his wife was here and then Christmas time etc so you know I gained all back that I lost on my last diet... this time I hope I remember to keep it off. Its the pits going on a diet. I will though......
It was a sunny morning today and now the clouds are coming. Actually that is good because then it won't get cold and tomorrow is supposed to be the warmest day in awhile. Packers are playing home tomorrow too and it will be a nice day for the fans I hope.... I can't imagine sitting outside watching the game if it were below zero as it does get for a few weeks in January. We have been lucky so far I guess but I will be happier when January is past. :)
Hope you are all having a nice day today.... make sure you get plenty of rest so you don't get a cold. I think that was my downfall and its so much easier when the weather is so cold and there are drafts in the house.... my thought on it anyway. haha

Ice fishing

Someone asked me to put in some pictures of ice fishing ... I didn't have any at the time but my son just sent me a few pictures of when he went with my husband and grandson last week end... that is Leo in the picture below and this is just a pic of the lake and the different ice shantys out there. Not many yet but probably more next week if this weather stays cold... plus there will be lots of snow besides..
So gotta go now as I still don't feel good. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
Leo has to clean up all the snow by himself today but he doesn't seem to mind at all with his nice new insulated suit on etc... fresh air and exercise is good for a person... wish I was out there too.
Sandra

Snow storm

I am adding some pictures today because our son just e mailed them to me  This is Leo in the ice fishing shanty, sitting on the bench with his line waiting for the fish to bite and probably telling stories of the past and the big ones he caught.                              There won't be any pictures again today... even if the snow looks pretty. I have a doozy of a head cold and feel rotten. I can't go any where around the house with out a box of tissue... I hope it goes away soon ( snow and cold)  January is the pits......
I don't have anything else to say today so I think I will go back to bed and rest.... isn't that what you are supposed to do? Plenty of water and rest....
hope your day is better,
Sandra

Sunny afternoon

Its a nice calm sunny afternoon (well slight wind) and it is probably the calm before the storm. My husband went Ice fishing this morning and I took a lot of the Christmas decorations down and packed them away for another year. It seems I just put them out. Now if January can pass that fast I will be singing for joy. Leo took the lights off the trees in the front yesterday and hopefully he will get home soon enough to take a few more things down today. I have a feeling its going to snow and then it will not be good for awhile to take the lights off the house. I have to get one more plastic storage box for the little tree decorations and maybe one for all the Christmas throws and pillows that were scattered all around. Better than storing them all year in my room. I promised myself I will have a neater house this year. So far so good, haha. I also promised myself I will lose weight so I can enjoy my garden this summer and so far its working too. One day at a time........ ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Now that the Packers are in the play offs that will also make winter go faster.... Win Win Win packers so we only have to look ahead one week at a time instead of 3 long long long months.
I do have knitting to do and I ordered some good books at the library so as soon as I get the trees done we will get into the swing of things. Supposed to go with my sisters Thursday and I sure hope the snow waits for us. We haven't been together for a long time now so its about time.  The only problem half of us don't drive in the snow. Im one of them Im afraid. So crossing my fingers for us and hoping everyone is having a nice day, Sandra

My grandson has a fishing house like that but probably nicer. my husband uses a plastic one with a heater etc... I don't go as he likes to just go with the "boys" ok by me though as its too cold to sit out there.

Janice I wait until the kings for taking my tree down too. Just had to clean up a little before that.... so much to do.

Oh and i need the box because I don't want to store some things in my bedroom anymore ~ I figure for just a couple of weeks in the year I use the stuff and then have it in my room to get around the rest of the year is just too much... I put it in there originally because I was afraid they would get funny downstairs but I changed my mind... I will wrap them good and they should be ok and my room will look better. :) should save a few points on my bloodpressure, lol

Sunday, January 2, 2005

Hi, I had to take my yesterdays entry off because I added to it and it became too wide. Now its back to normal again..

We didn't get snow today but last night it rained a lot and this morning it was so icy I didn't think we would make it to church. The sun came out at the last minute so we decided to go for it and by the time we got out the sun had melted a lot of the ice so we went to eat at Krolls and watched the first quarter of the Packer game and then went to Kohls and heard the 2nd quarter and then at half time came home and watched the rest.. it was a good game except for the first quarter  which was about all I personally saw, haha
Carley came over with Rick and we had fun and took some funny pictures I will probably share tomorrow...
2 full days now with out any sweets.... Im on a roll. Hope you are having good luck with your new resolutions too.

Sandra
