Little Boys

                                           His Pal

A puppy need not be a thing

Of beauty and of grace

To put a light in some lads eyes,

A smile upon his face.

His coat may be a muddy hue

And rough as uncombed wig;

His legs may be a lot too short,

His padding feet too big.

But of this seeming ugliness

A small boy's unaware,

And any puppy seems to him

An answer to his prayer.

For boys' hearts have an emptiness

From the moment they begin,

Just waiting, warm and welcoming,

For a pup to amble in.

How true and what a sweet poem.

That is so sweet - you were lucky to have so many boys and some puppies for them to play with. Scott always wanted a puppy, too...had to make do with cats though. Someday I'm sure he'll get his puppy.
