Cloudy Rainy day

Some of the Hostas I transplanted from the front are growing nice in the back. This will be a nice place for them. there are many more on the right where the picture ends. I will probably get it again this summer when they blossom.

John's number 7

John wants to know where we have gone on vacations and where is the place we most want to go.... I have been on a few nice vacations to visit my son and daughter in law in Florida among other places but the place I like to be the best is HOME. Iam always happiest when the vacation is over and I get to go home again. I do have nice times but still I like being home the best and can't figure out why everyone doesn't agree with me on that. After all you can do whatever you want at home and make it as plesant as you want and if you want to see other places just rent a movie or something. There is a good one coming out in July I want to see about traveling around the United States that should be good.... Besides I would miss Charlie and Peaches and Twinkie if we went away...

Gary's new Orange Mustang

We had a nice day today! It rained when we got our planting finished and then it cleared up so Gary could bring his new car home and it stayed all nice and shiny.... It is very pretty and worth the wait. He wanted an orange one without black because he said it would look too much like Halloween then, lol Anyway he is glad he waited because the inside is all leather now and it wasn't on the other ones he was waiting for.... this was his last chance and he got it and at a nice price to because our son Rick works for Ford (not a salesman) and Gary could get a good deal.... He is very happy and will keep his old car to drive to work for awhile until he can get used to his new one... he says its worth paying the extra insurance for a little while.... they are fixing out street and we will have to park at the end ot the road for awhile and he wants to keep it in the garage and I don't blame him. You can see the driveway cracks in the side door its so shiny.

I went with Leo today to get a few plants.... 3 tomatoes and a few vines and a flat of annuals.... I only like to get a few at a time so I know I can get them planted before I get more..... I planted the tomatoes just before it rained so they should get a nice start... I still have to plant a few things in the back before I get more.... will probably get some every day this week end because we will have some nice days for planting I think.... Its starting to look like summer is coming around here.  Leo got some sod to put where they fixed the gutter and its all planted and looks good as new ...... So we had a nice day!!!! Hope everyone else did also.

Sunny tomorrow

Its so amazing after all the rain the flowers still are growing well and even blooming. It only rained a little today but was cool and cloudy for most of the day.... the sun did shine and the weather man promises more sun tomorrow.... I'm glad the back yard didn't get dry enough to cut today because my husband needed something to do and I finally got my clothes lines back in working order.... I don't hang much out but they are nice to have when I want to put rugs out to dry or even sheets.... they smell so good after a good airing ( if the birds don't get them) ;>) Anyway you can see in the picture the Iris and Columbine are just starting to bloom and that is a blue indigo bush on the near end and on this side I have a clematis on a trellis and the autumn kind on the fence in this area. Looks like some coral bells are starting to bloom already too in this little space I have between the house and a small sidewalk.

We Saw the Sun

Yesterday the sun came out for a whole hour and then the clouds came back.... it was the first time we have seen the sun since last Wednesday.... It was so funny because it came out later in the day and Leo and 2 neighbors took that as a sign to cut the grass.. it was getting very very long. We couldn't get the back cut though as its swampy back there in a few spots, actually its ankle deep in the middle. But we did see the sun so we know its there somewhere. Its cloudy again today though and we hope it shines again soon. its going "up" into the 60's today so that will help. We are much luckier than some ~ so many tornados and so much flooding in the midwest lately.... I only hope and pray for an end  so we can get on with summer... Well Spring anyway.... things are growing like we are in a rain forest lately... the iris are starting to bloom but the rain spoils them so I hope now for some sun. You guys that need the rain can have ours if you want to trade. :>)

Just fooling around with picture size

Well I cropped this picture as small as I could and then resized it. Janice can you get it this way? If not I give up.... LOL the only trouble now is it doesn't look as clear as it did when I started... Its kinda blurry isn't it?

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

Not much to say for today except it is thundering and pouring out..... the back yard is getting full of water in the middle where it slopes down...  Now we will have to wait until this dries up before we can plant the tomatoes and seeds etc.... What a bummer.
After church today we went to breakfast with our daughter Shari and her husband Dan and their daughter Mindy... Mindy looked so cute for a rainy day. she had purls on and a butterfly in her hair... so cute and tiny..... she also had on little heels and jeans that were too long.... I don't know about the styles these days but she still looked cute. Then we stopped at Shopko to look around and I found the cutest summer blouse for only $13.99 on sale so I got it.... white with a few lavendar and pink flowers (mostly white)  So I guess we made something good out of a rainy dreary day..... Will it ever end I wonder...............

Testing size of picture

I hope my sister can get this picture as I sent it smaller and its probably smaller than the picture of the woodpecker you said you could get. I hope but you know what, the picture isn't as clear if I make it too small. so Im trying to make it just the right size without losing too my clarity

I have a lot of iris that are ready to bloom now. Last year I didn't get many blossoms because I had just transplanted them the fall before... I can hardly wait. I just hope it doesn't get to hot or we stop getting rain for awhile so they can be pretty and also hope that dreaded cotton wood tree doesn't start shedding until I can see my pretty iris in bloom. Sometimes those cotton wood trees are like a snow fall for a couple of weeks and they hide some of my pretty flowers just like they did for my mother sometimes.... we don't have the tree but some of the neighbors do

Giant allium

I had to take a picture of the giant allium in bloom now too. after they are finished I dry them and put them in a vase in the house. I still have 2 from last year with some hydrangeas I found a place for that Charlie never found. If he found them Im afraid he would have mangled them. The sweet kitty knocked over a potted plant last night to get at one of these that broke off and I brought them in the house. Funny but he knocked the plant over twice ( it didn't break) I guess he just wanted to see what was new and then he left it alone finally when I removed the pot he knocked over so  he could get a better wiff.... He has been sassy lately, I think he wants to go out and play but its been rainy again.

Rainy day in Green Bay

These flowers are so pretty its a good thing I didn't pull them out. See what the leaves look like.... well that is all you see for a long time and they grow to almost a foot and then they fall down and these beautiful white flowers come up from the center... I planted bulbs but I don't remember the name and every year I want to pull them out until I remember what they are. They close on a cloudy day and at night though. Which is ok because they are in bloom for a couple of weeks at least.

Johns # 6

Today we have to tell about our friends in second grade and send a picture for "extra credit" ;>)  This is a picture of me on my First Communion day when I was in second grade..... Time sure flew by

I still have a friend in town who was a friend in second grade. I guess my best friend lived accross the street from me though and went to the other school and was a year older than Iam.. She lives in another town but a few years ago we met and now at least send Christmas cards to each other. And then there is Judy .... we always send each other birthday and Christmas cards with letters most times and do get together with other friends from High School for lunch .... meeting once a month but I usually only make it once a year or so... Another good friend from second grade lives in California and I have only seen her once when we had an 8th grade  renunion a few years back... You know in those days camera's weren't used as much as we use them today so there aren't many pictures. I have a picture of my first grade class and noone but someone my age would believe how many were in that class.... What memories. My second grade teacher was a sweet sweet nun though and I will always remember Sister Jude

Road Work Continues

They got as far as our house yesterday and put the cement in for the curb and already took the forms out but also put a light and barrier by the driveway so we can't use one side of the driveway... I guess its good they didn't do the crack on the other side after all. These guys are afraid of a little rain though as they didn't show up on the street today as it rained last night and is supposed to rain again this afternoon... Leo said at that rate they won't be doing any work until Monday now because its supposed to rain every day. They probably get paid a lot so it doesn't matter.... There were 5 guys alone just doing this little job. haha  Then after they left Leo had to go and square the lawn so when they come with the dirt he will be able to lay a nice strip of sod in place... They put seed in and straw on top but he will take the straw off and put sod.... I told you he loves he grass. ;)

Whats new?

The first of four pictures

This is a picture I took today of the road repair work starting. I took it in front of our driveway. I guess it won't be long until they are in front of our house. after they repair the curbs they are going to tear up the road and put new black top on it.... Then we will probably have to repair our grass by the curb too in the place they had to fix. My husband is not happy about that as he takes much pride in his grass ;) He will have to stay home from fishing for a day or two and I will have to see it gets watered enough. Why is it to get something nice you always have extra work to do I wonder... I hope the kids in the neighborhood don't throw that pile of stones around.... we have nice kids around so I think it will be fine... I will send pictures as the work progresses ( if you want to see or not) LOL

Whats new?

These are the last of the tulips I have to bloom. They just started blooming Sunday. I guess it means I have to really think hard about what I should plant now... I think I will just go to a few greenhouses and see what I can find. I know I had things in mind but now I just can't remember and besides I like looking to see what is new around here.

Whats new?

I planted the marigolds today and that is the rose bush I planted last week in front of the flag pole. I still have a lot to plant but can't decide what.... It is early yet and I will get it done.

Whats new?

I'm going to add 4 pictures today to show you what is happening in my neighborhood... This pic is showing you how nice my clematis is growing on the end of the porch. It will be blooming soon. The porch pots are just starting and I have to add a few more plants to those yet. The green in the front is mostly day lilies and regular lilies with a peony and on the end is a bunch of iris and some roses that really aren't showing up on the ppicture.

Cool Sunny day

I seems every time I take a picture a weed wants to spoil it for me.... just pretend thats a poppy coming up ;>)  The bleeding heart was so pretty this morning with the sun shinning on it but hard to take a picture because the sun was in my eyes.... I know I should have been on the other side but this was the prettiest side ~ besides I was in a hurry.
I didn't do very much this weekend. Yesterday laundry and clean the house and today my son and Grandaughter were here all afternoon. After church we stopped at the store for a bit and I got myself 2 little blue bowls.... I figure if I use smaller bowls I won't eat so much... Its worth a try anyway. I will let you know if it works... I told that to the clerk and she said she would just fill hers up twice then.... We'll see. Hope everyone is having a nice week end!

Tulips and rain

The rain curled the orange tulips and maybe the cold along with it so one more day of sunshine and I will have to cut these back but when the tulips are all cut back then summer usually begins... still have a lot of tulips in bloom... the smarter one know enough to close when it gets cold and cloudy so they will last longer but I think these are kinda pretty yet too.

Johns assignment

Richard Simmons came to Green Bay and I needed to get back to the program ( I had lost 50#s ) because I gained some of it back... I had a good time exercising and he gave me a big hug for the picture... he was really nice!

I also got an arms length from Bon Jovi at an Al Gore appearance but no hug.... darn. I even left my camera home, how dumb am I? haha

Isn't it funny I could get this picture in and i didn't change anything about my browser and the other pictures I put in today could only be put in small... too bad it wasn't the other way around. This picture isn't my best, look at all those double chins, LOL  It was a nice hug though.

Planting flowers

I had a bit of fun today after cleaning the house this morning I went to Wal Mart and found a few flowers. I don't like to get too many at once because then the work might overwhelm me.... They got in some roses today and I bought one to put in front of the flag pole in the front yard... What a good buy I got too. Its a David Austin rose and its supposed to be crimson but for that price it can be any color at all, I won't mind   Was only 8.97. I bought some English roses in previous years at a nice greenhouse and they were probably more like 28 so I'm very happy. It looks healthy and was potted and has buds on it already ( one broke off on the way home)  I planted the rose bush and also the other flowers I bought today... I have 4 porch pots to fill and also another wooden planter . I still need to get some trailing vines though. I  have to plant the marigolds I bought on Tuesday. They are in a good spot though and I will plant them soon. They are being watered so should be fine... I need to get some other flowers to go with them and I'm wondering what the weather will be like ~ its a perfect day today to plant but its supposed to get cool again so the flowers I want to plant by the marigolds won't be as hardy.... time will tell. I'm still thinking  LOL
For some strange reason I can't put my pictures in larger today... says I need to upgrade my browser... I didn't change my browser so I will try again after I turn the computer off... Always something, huh?
Its raining really nice now so my new roses are getting a nice drink of warm rain water... They should be off to a good start now ~~~~

It's HOT Today

I'm hoping we don't get too bad of a storm tonight because I still have some pretty tulips in bloom and some that haven't bloomed yet. They say high winds and hail could be coming our way.... oh boy.
My daughter Shari came over today and we went to the greenhouse and I got a pretty hanging basket and some pink trailing plants to put in the planters on the front porch.... Slowly but surely I will get all my flowers... I just have to work to hard if I bring everything home at once... I got the gold mulch yesterday for the back garden and some stones and soil to put in the planters on the porch and a flat of Marigolds to put in the garden... I still have to plant the marigolds. I wasn't planning on going shopping today but when Shari came over I had to go and see what Bonnies greenhouse had this year ~ I found a plant I really wanted and it was half the price of the one I saw at Steins.... smaller but big enough and it will grow. So far so good.... I guess its beginning finally.

My Grandaughters Senior Ball

My Grandaughter Mindy is the one in the blue dress. They had their last Formal last Friday night, It was the Senior Ball. They all had a nice time and the pictures will remind them for years to come.  Collage is right around the corner for most of them. Mindy had just gone to a Junior prom a few weeks before with her friend Alex who is a few months younger and a junior~ they love the dances and Mindy LOVES dressing up... She had a new dress for each dance in High School and that is pretty many dresses and they were all so pretty..... Im so glad she is having fun. She is a Sweetheart!!!

Yellow and Red

I think this is my favorite tulip.... well today anyway.

Tulips in my front yard

I just finished taking out the weeds in this garden and now I am just about ready to plant it.... still have to loosen up the ground a little but that won't be as bad as what I have already done.  ;)

Mostly tulips way in back garden

Flowers in the back garden ... looks like I have some work to do trimming that grass doesn't it?   Is that a dandelion in there too? Oh my, I will have to get it out before I have all dandelions and just one flower.

A few Pictures

This is a wind chime I got from my daughter yesterday. I just took a picture of the top though. I hung it from the eves and can see it when Im sitting in my favorite chair in the family room. Actually it isn't quite as big as it looks here but I liked this picture.

HAPPY  MOTHERS  DAY

Its another cloudy day today but I'm not going to let it get me depressed..... I'm going to try anyway... Sure would be nice to see the sun again though. Maybe this afternoon it will shine.
I just came in to wish everyone a happy day before I went to church etc today... Maybe there will be something nice to talk about at the end of the day.  :>)

yard work

Yesterday I did yardwork for 4 hours so I figured today I could rest. It was raining a little this morning after a nice soaking rain last night. Its still cloudy today and puts me in a mood to lay around the house. I did go to Target this morning so I did do something, :>)  Yesterday I cleaned out the weeds in a little side garden and planted some Pansys and johnny jump ups and then I went to the bigger spot where the Hostas used to be and started taking out all the weeds and undesireables and spaded half to get ready to plant some pretty flowers.... I can't decide what but I will go shopping soon and hopfully they will have something I like.   I just know the spelling in this must be all mixed up and I sure wish there was spell check in here because I don't feel like looking the words up today.... I am just so lazy today!  Think I will go try and finish reading that book I started a couple of weeks ago.. Hope everyone is having a nice day, rain or shine.

Johns new assignment

Its a hard thing to remember which of my birthday presents were the best.... The one I like the best though right now is one I got from my Mother the year after we moved into this house( that was 27 years ago). She asked me what I wanted and I said a nice little nick nack would be nice as I don't have any and she found the best one.... A little girl (me) with a puppy. She said she got it because she knew how much I liked little animals... I have always loved that. Now I have too many knick knacks but that one would never be given away. Christmas would be much harder to pick just one thing. Maybe because my birthday is so near to Christmas it wasn't such a big thing...  I don't have a clue as to which birthday present I gave someone was the best... I always try to give something nice and something I know  they would like but how can you know which one was the best.... I have a great big family and give and gave so many hundreds of presents. I just like being remembered with a nice card and I have gotten so many pretty cards and even some funny ones too...

Just one more

Cute, huh? I have about 10 more I put on a disk. some you can even see the whiskers ..... I will have fun watching them but I guess we may put a different and cheaper seed in there next time. I hope they eat the seed in the grass good so my dogs don't eat it and get sick though. Little chihuahuas can get sick easy.

The Sun came out

I was surprised today to see these squirrels on the new feeder Leo just made and put up yesterday. Partly because Deb had just posted some squirrels in her journal and partly because I went to open my bedroom window and they didn't move. I went to get my camera and was more surprised I got a picture and it turned out through the window and screen. I think they are so cute but my husband said he bought that seed for the cardinals.... hoho ho ho...... Maybe they can share. I told him I like the squirrels too and they are funnier to watch than the birds ~ let the neighbors feed the birds ~ they have their baffles etc on their poles so the squirrels can't eat and I can see and take pictures of them... in fact the neighbor said the cardinal was making a nest in my tree, LOL

HERE COMES THE RAIN

THE RAIN HAS JUST STARTED... It was bound to happen after some nice days of sunshine. MY husband is driving his new van into the garage as he thinks it might hail.... he got all wet. Car more important I think to him. I think I will take a picture the sky looks mean today but we do need some rain.

I took my pictures and now I think I will make breakfast and do some laundry... Maybe finish a book in between loads.
My goodness the street crew is out in the rain with their yellow rain coats on ~ they are going to give us a new street this summer.... Once they decided to do it I suppose rain or shine they will do their prep work... They told me yesterday it will be June or July when they do it though.... Should be a mess for awhile but then really nice like living in a new neighborhood  again.

Happy Cinco de Mayo Day

Peaches and I wish you  a happy Cinco de Mayo day today!!! I hope your sky is as blue as ours today and the sun is shinning by you! We had a little frost again last night but it seems only on the roof tops. The weather man said last night the the time for planting flowers in Wisconsin begins on Mothers day... I sure hope he is right but the delicate ones can't be planted until Memorial day I think ( to be safe)
The neighbor lady and I are going to a May day affair and style show today.... I am not that into fashion but its always a good time seeing everyone and they always have a good lunch. after the lunch and style show they auction off things the Ladies have made. Some years I get very pretty things but as its all for the church the price can get pretty steep. My neighbor doesn't like to stay for that part so we leave... If I go with someone else I stay and usually buy something... She saves me money when I go with her, lol  There are usually at least a couple of hundred people there so it doesn't really matter if we leave early... I can still buy something because before they have tables set up with little home made things to buy.... even bakery. Yummm but im supposed to be dieting so maybe not. ;>)

Full Moon

I tried to get this picture in larger but for some strange reason it wouldn't show up.... The weather man told us tonight this moon has about 4 names so far. It is the Full May Moon and then it was called the Flower Moon~ the Milk Moon and then the Corn planting moon... I wonder how many people plant corn by this moon?  It sure is bright enough tonight and the sky is so clear. In this picture it still was below the trees and a little red yet.... we watched it from way low to way high.... I call it the beginning moon.... the beginning of spring and my favorite time of the year! What do you call it?

Cold but Sunny day!

It froze last night and the tulips were bent over this morning but they are hardy and perked up later in the day. This is another little bunch I have in the yard.
I'm very very happy today because I found out what the doctor thought was a growth on my sons kidney is a cyst and not cancer or kidney stone and it will just stay where it is the doctor said as it won't do any harm there. We are all so relieved that it isn't cancer... We were on pins and needles for about 5 days..... Now he and his wife will be able to leave on schedule to visit Mike and Teri in Florida in 2 weeks.  The doctor noticed he had something because he is a fireman and a paramedic and while transporting a very active and extremly heavy man down a flight of stairs ( with others) he pulled his back out.  So he needed a MRI and then today a cat scan to make sure and good news.... so even if its cold out its a Great day!

Hope you enjoy my flowers like I do!

Cloudy Day and cold

As I was looking for something to take a picture of I noticed some tulips that are getting ready to bloom... It won't be long now. Just another warm day or so; but I decided to take them anyway so I could post a picture in my Journal.... Not much else going on here today. We went to Church and then shopping and home to watch the races... Jeff won again today and that made me happy      :>)  So even if its cold and windy it was a pretty good day!

I got a new movie and a few books to read so I should have a good week when I relax I think. Oh I did buy one other plant too, couldn't resist as all the plant places have their plants out now and I got one that is supposed to attract butterflys. I like the nice big leaves it gets too so it should be a good plant for pretty many years. I will take pictures as it blossoms and the butterflys are all over it, hahahah... Maybe, you never know.

Worst advice?

I've been trying to figure out since Thursday what is the worst advice I have ever given or been given and I can't think of a thing. You see I always listen to what others have to "suggest" and I always make up my own mind.... same as for giving others advice... I just don't do it. I may suggest or give examples but I never give advice. The way I look at it every one is different and must make up their own mind. SO>>>> how is that for the answer to John's weekly question    lol

So this is supposed to be my fortune according to the latest game being played in Journal land.... found in the 23 posting of the journal archieve: Doesn't make much sense to me though but its: "That was a job I don't ever want to do again" Now you tell me, does that sound like anykind of fortune ? Unless I won't ever have to transplant another group of large hostas again. Who is to say.
