Carley, My Grandaughter

Carley was having fun Saturday when she came over..... so much fun in fact she gave me an extra big hug and kiss when she left and she asked me to leave it just the way she had it..... I did :) well almost because I had to take one of the beds into the family room so Twinkie could go in his usual place.... She came over again Sunday but didn't want to play that game anymore but she wanted to take all my dolls off the shelf and play dolls with me so thats what we did..... I only get to see her every other week end so I figure we can have some fun.... I don't want her to think of me as an old sourpuss so I usually find something for her to do.... I found a book with stickers in today with a story about Dick and Jane. I may keep it to play with here or give it to her with her birthday present.... she  is going to be 7 on the 7th of September already..... time flys.
So thats what I did for some of my week end.... the rest of it I watched the olympics, worked in the yard and on Sunday we went to Mass and I had to go to the store also.... a regular Sunday thing.... I found a nice pair of pants for only $12 and I decided today to go back and get another pair and a shirt to match.... they were 50% off plus another 50% off so I got a really nice buy on some name brand clothes... so comfortable too. I really should do all my shopping at the end of the season I guess.... trouble is I like to get something new all year. haha
So now I'm back to work ~ I did clean up the place Carley made and the other things we did so the house is at least straightened ~~~ Laundry is waiting though etc etc etc....
Hope your having a nice day!

Olympics are over

I certainly enjoyed those olympics this year.... I will miss watching them and that darn ole convention will be monopolizing the screen for the next 4 days~ :>( Well I guess my house could use a good cleaning and then I have a few good books to read... darn anyway. If I would have watched it anymore maybe I would have tried harder to get into better shape. Weren't they all in wonderful shape though? Wow and so good at what they did.... I guess I'm in awe of all of them. And we got 103 medals too! Aren't you proud of the kids though and they say all the kids are in bad shape ~ I think not all. You should see my grandaughter.... she has enough energy for 5 people and she is just going to be 7 in a week.... I took pictures so will be adding them tomorrow probably... Goodnight and sweet dreams,

My Cat Picture

Here is the picture I have in my family room that I was telling about the other day...  I went shopping yesterday for a new sofa so I will give this one to one of my sons. It is still in pretty good shape but after 27 years I am just so tired of it and want something to brighten up this space.... after all this is where I sit to read and watch tv.... not on the sofa but in my recliner, lol  Sofa never got used very much because it used to be in the living room and we don't really use that room very much.... Anyway I just wanted to show you my big picture. I'm still going to be looking for a picture but not for over the sofa because this kitty is so relaxing..... Oh my new sofa is RED, I just love it and it should be bright enough for me.... the pillows on it have a red and peach design so it matches with the walls....(We have to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for it too get here though)
I will be able to decorate nice for Christmas this year, LOL
Hope everyone is having a nice day!

Still more flowers

Two different sunflowers planted themselves from a bird feeder I had there this winter... one a stripped seed and the other the black oil sunflower seed.... I like both but the black one has more flowers and it kinda colorful. I have to stake up the glads so they look nice as they are going to bloom pretty soon now.... Seems like its should be the beginning of August but noooo... next year I hope its a different summer and we do get some tomatoes. My sister Joan got a nice big bowl today but she planted the July 4th tomatoes and I planted Celebrity.... next year I will be smarter and plant both.... the plants look nice and they have green tomatoes on but small ones yet.....
It was a very humid day today.... I wish it would have rained as it couldn't have been more humid if it did and we still need a lot of rain. I planted 4 new Iris' today and the soil only got moisture in the top inch. The rest was like digging in stones where I planted them.... It is supposed to rain tonight though so thats a good thing. Under the hydrangea bush I have some mums that are getting blossoms on...... they should be pretty too but that is probably the last of my garden when they finish blooming.  The roses are still blooming though so thats a good thing.

Rain today

We are supposed to get more rain today.... that is a good thing as we need it. It rained a little last night and things are still a little damp... very humid today. Hope we don't get severe storms though as "they" say we might. We have a tree that has lost almost half of the leaves already and we heard it could be because it needs water.... so if we don't get enough rain we will start to water it...I hope it makes it back next year as pretty as ever. We really don't want to cut any more trees down.
Yesterday we went to the card store where all the cards are 59c and I got enough to last me the rest of the year... unless I forgot someone or something comes up. I had a list and we had fun looking for the right cards.... what a good deal and I think the cards are pretty nice too. Then we went to eat lunch and as usual I ate too much..... got to get back on a good diet I think. We also went to TJ Maxx and I didn't see anything I wanted to buy.... probably a first for me...I was looking for a picture for the family room and most were a reasonable price but the one I really liked was $499. I didn't go to a store like that to pay that much, lol   Oh well now I can keep looking and after all I think that is the most fun.... I'm looking for just the right picture... I should show you someday the one I already have in there that is so relaxing.... Its a huge picture of a cat relaxing, takes up almost all the room on the wall in back of the sofa. I want one to put above the fireplace now too. Also need a new sofa. Would like to get it before my son comes for a visit next month but who knows.... I just can't find the right one. I need one that my little dog can fit under. She feels secure under the edge of the sofa when Charlie is around ~ they don't seem to get along. Twinkie and Charlie do but not Peaches. When they were playing Charlie scratched her eye not once but twice and she won't have much to do with him anymore and I can't say I blame her either. Even if Charlie was only a little kitten when it happened. Peaches is not going to take another chance and she watches very closely when Twinkie and Charlie are playing and if she thinks Charlie is getting too rough she takes off after him... She thinks she is Twinkie's mother I think sometimes..... We put the cat in the basement when we go away so they behave. Charlie likes it down there and has a couple of chairs with soft blankets and a litter box etc. Listen to me go on and on.... I think I should go and make my bed and get something done, lol
Hope everyone is having a nice day!

Doggy day

I took Peaches and Twinkie to the vet for shots and to the groomer and Charlie was missing them. I had to get my camera when I saw what he did. He took this soft rug and rolled it up for a pillow and layed there looking at the door they went out. I guess he misses teasing them and playing with them after all. When I got home with the dogs he went into the basement and went to sleep..... Pretending like he didn't care as only cats can do.... what a sweet bunch I have. Peaches and Twinkie had to be there at 7 and I picked them up at 12 to get their shots and we didn't get home until 1:15 so now they are sleeping too.... I wonder how they will be tonight, I suppose sassy with all their energy.
I saw the United States women get the gold medal this afternoon for softball.... I didn't even get to see one game and they played 9..... I think the score all together was 51 to 1. I wish I had at least seen one or two of their games.... I'm proud of them anyway, aren't you!
I have to go and finish my laundry .... I probably won't finish until tomorrow now unless something comes up.... can always put that on hold.
Hope everyone is having a nice day,
Sandra

Warm sunny day

Its a beautiful day today! Breezy and 80 with the sun shinning. Pretty good since the weather man said we were supposed to get rain.
I'm lazy today though and just sitting around after church. We did go shopping though( seems that is a Sunday kind of thing for us) Leo got a nice pair of pants and a shirt... He thought it was on sale really really cheap but when he went to the check out counter he found out they put them in the wrong spot.... He got them anyway and finally got a nice pair of pants that fit him just perfect. And a beautiful shirt to match.... I really don't need any clothes because I buy too many on QVC so I mostly looked around. I did get a fall mock neck long sleeve shirt though to wear under a sweater I just got. A muted orange with shaded pumpkins on it.... Got it in a big size because I feel fat today, lol Oh, I also got a cute straw hat for only $5 so I can sit outside and read and shade the sun... or for working outside too. The one I have is way too hot and last time I was really perspiring, they had them on sale plus another 50% off.... So we had fun and then came home to water my plants and watch the races, golf, and olympics.... I wonder what I will do when they are over... We waited so long for them to start and now they are almost over... Seeing those athletics in such good shape makes me want to try to get into a little better shape.... I'm in awe of them.
Oh, this is a picture of what is now taking over the front yard after all the other plants are finished.... I call them Moon flowers and the pink are Spider plants. I'm sure they must have fancier names but that is what I always called them.... they came up on their own from seeds of plants I had  last year.  I took the picture at night with a flash because after all they are moon flowers and are open and at their best at night or on cool mornings.
Hope you are having a nice day too, Sandra

Finally a butterfly

This isn't exactly the one I wanted but I have been waiting so long for this guy to finally come on my butterfly bush. I just couldn't get him to open his wings like I did last year... He flew away right away and I just wasn't fast enough... now if we get some warmer weather I should be seeing more and getting more pictures. I hope.
I have to go and watch golf ,olympics, and then racing but I just had to hurry and put this picture in before I forgot. Its the best I can do for today.

Brrrrrrrr

It's pretty cold here in Green Bay this morning. I guess its time to break records for the coldest August in history. I hope that means we will at least have a warm winter to balance it all out, but who knows what winter will bring... I will just enjoy the sun today and it will be a good day to work in the yard as its sunny and cool. Yesterday we got 20 min. of rain. The first rain in 6 weeks. It rained pretty hard though so we must have gotten at least 1/2 of and inch. I hope these roses bloom a little longer yet as they are getting so pretty again. Last night the cities north of us had a frost warning already. This will be known as the first year I didn't get my tomatoes to ripen... It started off so cold and then so much rain that we couldn't plant them on time. The plants are sure pretty and if it was July I guess they would be right on schedule...
Have a nice day!

Squirrel on a sunflower

I never saw a squirrel climb a sunflower before so I ran to get my camera and it stayed put. After I took the picture it ran down the stem... what little acrobats they are.  It gave me a nice laugh anyway. Usually its the birds that eat the sunflowers ~ anyway thats what I thought. ;>)
Today is going to be a warm summer day and Leo went fishing early. I think I will just putter around the yard and do a little laundry and maybe even read a little. I just finished reading Nancy Reagan's book  The letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy. It was a good little book. I didn't vote for him but maybe I should have as they seem like such nice people. They were lucky to have found each other.. I'm not sure what I will read next as I'm not in the mood to read one I have.. Maybe I will check out what they have at the library today.
Hope everyone is having a beautiful summer day!

Brenna my GREAT-GRANDAUGHTER

My daughter brought my Greatgrandaughter over for a visit yesterday! What a nice surprise. She is really getting around now and soon will be walking. We had fun with her without her big sister trying to get all the attention. Morgan was with her mother at a birthday party and we had a party with Brenna. I'm glad I have a nice camera to take pictures~ even a little movie and she was singing and crawling on it. The only reason I put the one of me in is because someone asked me too.... I'm really not all that fond of the picture though after all I'm old.... a greatgrandmother after all. LOL
Hope you have a fun day today.

Beautiful August Day

It must be August if the Black eyed Susans are in bloom. I put 3 little plants here last year and they are taller and they spread out this year... They make this corner of my yard look so pretty. I hope they continue to bloom for a long time yet.
Its a beautiful day here today but its supposed to rain this afternoon late... Its a good thing for the yard but there is a Packer pre season game tonight and some will get wet I think. I'm going to sit home and watch on tv so I won't be getting wet. I spent a couple of hours watering my flowers this morning anyway. The ground is so dry and hard I figured if I softened it a little the rain would do more good. Our grass is starting to turn brown because it needs rain I think, probably fertilizer too but its still too warm and the sun is too hot I think to apply that now. It will be a pretty green again this fall I'm sure.
I hope everyone is having a beautiful day today!

Farmers Market

We went to the farmers market today in town and got a bucket of cherries again and a bunch of other things. This is the first time I went this year and everything sure looked delicious.

Florida Hurricane

The hurricane is over in Orlando and my son Mike and Teri his wife made it safe and sound. I was talking to Mike on his cell phone ~ he was in the closet~ when the storm was over his house. A lot of shingles came off his roof and the fence in 4 sections was torn down and the large tree in front has branches that have to be sawed off(it was bent over almost to the ground and it lost all the leaves)  and his banana tree lost 3 main branches just before they were going to pick 3 bunches of bananas too. he is hoping they ripen in the house... Then they lost the electricity and since they just had gotten a bunch of groceries they are looking for ice but the stores they went to so far aren't open because the registers aren't working.... Now they say 2 more will be probably following the same path next week after 40 some years of not having a hurricane in the area... So many people have it much worse than Mike and Teri , especially those in that trailer park so we are lucky Mike and Teri are fine and all their belongings are safe. Teri's van was parked 5 feet away from a tree that fell  and damaged about 10 other cars. Mike saw a transformer blow up and the blue light was so bright it hurt his eyes.
After it was over the neighbors got together outside and talked about it into the night...

Hummingbird

I was sitting in the family room this evening and I was watching a hummingbird go from flower to flower and decided to get my camera just in case and what do you know..... it stayed long enough for me to get a few pictures.
Today was a nice day in Green Bay! The sun was shinning and I could go out and play in the garden. I decided as long as the sun is shinning and its a little warm its nice out and I will enjoy it.
I hope the rains and storms in the south aren't as bad as they say they could be...

Cool days

We are getting cold weather and I do mean cold. To some of you it would be winter almost I think. We broke all records again for cold...Its only 52 as I write this at 9am. It seems like we are still waiting for summer and fall is coming already. I have never in my life seen a summer like this one. What I think is amazing is the flowers are still blooming on schedule. Now the trees are a different story and so are the tomatoes and some of the farmers crops too. I wonder what winter will bring us this year~~ I sure hope that is not colder and longer too.... It just wouldn't be fair would it. ;>)  The weather man said the normal temp for this time of the year is 80 and we are a far cry from that. I just heard on tv this morning that a cold front is coming to cover the whole of the United States and I'm sure some in the southern states will really welcome that too.
I hope your having a super day no matter what the weather.

More of Door County Wisconsin

I hope you like the Pictures I said I would post today. I sure had fun taking them the other day.
Today is another nice day but we are supposed to have a storm tonight. Maybe the rain will be better for my tomatoes than just water from the hose. I picked 4 little cherry tomatoes so far and have a few green ones on my regular plants only they aren't much bigger than the cherries so far... we sure had a cold and wet spring and everything is so slow this year. We don't even have any butterflys around here yet.   Hope fall holds off a little yet.
have a nice day!

One of 3 more pics

Another little shop.... I will be showing some more pictures but probably a bunch of little ones the next time... I had fun taking pictures as you can see. Didn't go into this shop because I had already  had a nice piece of dessert. Maybe next time... Leo can't eat sweets so its not much fun eating in front of him because he used to love sweets too.

Another pic of Door County

another pic of a little shop in Door County..... this is a text of 24 because the others are too small again. sorry

Another pic of Door county

This is another pic of when we went to Door County last week.... I just am too tired to write much but I haven't been doing much including not getting enough sleep. Tonight its raining finally and maybe a good night for sleeping! ;>)

Day Trip

We drove to door county yesterday (Leo and I) and we had a perfect day. I took over 100 pictures and it was more fun than buying any of the many many things they had for sale.. We went to get cherries and I got a pail of cherries plus a nice 4 berry pie and a couple of jars of homemade jam, 4 berry jam and current jelly... yum yum. We also ate our lunch at a favorite restaurant. I never had such a good time just taking pictures and walking around and then on the way home we went to an antique shop where I took more pictures.... I did buy 2 really pretty hankies that someone crocheted the edges so beautifully that I couldn't resist. I also crochet hankies but these were much better than I can do. So they were nice to get.
It would have been fun to make a sand castle there in the sand but this spot is reserved for the boaters.... funny thing though on such a beautiful day all the boats were docked. I hope this weekend is better for the boaters. We sometimes go on the weekend and its so busy there you can't get a place to park..... We sure had a lovely day!

Nice Day!

Today is a beautiful summer day. Highs in the 70's with low humidity. I think I will work in the back yard for awhile as I need to dead head some roses etc and tie up a cosmos that got way too tall and fell down yesterday in the wind we had for a few minutes.

They are working on our road again and are going to put some stuff on so the top coat will bind to the black top they already put on. It is some mean stuff and they warned us not to drive on it as it would stick to our cars and driveways etc ~ so I guess I have to stay home today. I don't want to park at the end of the street because we have a group of young high school boys that don't have enough to do and you never know how safe the car will be... Last night just as I was falling asleep the door bell rang about 10 times and when we all got up to see there wasn't anyone out there.... I wonder if they did that to every house along the way. I will have to ask around today. All I can say is Im glad I don't live alone as I would still be wondering about it.. Gary went to the door and Leo went outside to look around and he saw some kids at the corner so I imagine thats who it was... I would have stayed in the house and peeked out to see and wondered all night.... Sassy boys! ;>)  I suppose they thought it was a lot of fun waking everyone up.

Other than that my life has been rather boring. Sometimes I like it that way though don't you? I hope everyone is having a good day.    Sandra

Cherry Time in Wisconsin

My sister Joan and her husband went cherry picking today. Don't they look delicious? Leo and I will have to go one day really soon or maybe get some at the farmers market... I love cherries and love to keep my freezer full of them too. Yum Yum!!!!!
