Hot summer day

It's going to be in the 90's today.... a little warm for me. I spent part of the morning watering all the plants and that kept me cool and I am also doing the laundry which isn't a bad thing either because most of that is done in my nice cool house. Leo is cutting the front lawn so I made some iced tea and we sat  on the porch with that for a bit.... he likes me to make iced tea for him when he is working in the heat...
I'm still working on my afgan and it is slowly getting finished... probably not until July sometime though. It would be a wondrful thing if it was finished in July..... I made the afgan but the cross stitching is what takes me so long. It gives me somethng to do though and will be something  nice to show for the work.   :)
My tomato plants are getting taller and even have some buds but they don't look as healthy as I would like.... I keep watering and pulling weeds though so maybe they will get better soon...
Last night I had to take Leo out to supper because he mulched in back of the garden and under the cedar trees..... so today I wonder who is taking who out....lol  We will probably eat in or go dutch I guess.
Hope you are having a beautiful summer day and staying cool....How do you do that? do you have a secret or do you just love the hot weather? Sandra

I love the stella d'ora daylily with the burgundy clematis. You sure have a way with them. I've never seen such beautiful clematis as you grow. It doesn't even look like you need an arbor - it looks like a bush. I think I'll pick up a new one at Green Bay Nursury and try my luck again. I've planted so many, but I have one growing with a few flowers this year lol.

Is that a red mandavilla on the trellis? That is pretty. I never saw one like that before.

Hi there!

I don't know where you are but we're in SE Texas where it is very hot and humid and in spite of it, we love to sit in the porch swings and sip iced tea too.  We have an overhead fan made for outdoor porches and that stirs the air around a bit more.  Around 1:30 we head for indoors where we read or snooze until it cools off some.  I just love spring, summer, and fall.  Oh but winter is such a drag for me.
I find things to do but dread the colds and yuk that goes with winter.

My tomatoes aren't doing so good this summer either.  They have only gotten about as big as a small fist and are very hard.  Wonder what causes that?  Another lady nearby says hers have done the same thing.  We have to mulch everything here...especially new plants.  The water just evaporates too quickly and we find that in 90+ weather, you have to soak them and then maybe skip a day or two.  Most roses don't like too much water so they do really well here.
Your flowers are beautiful.  I just got my first Day lilies this year and enjoy them so much.  Any hints for taking care of them??  You have a great summer's day and soak up some of that wonderful serotonin that comes with being outside.  As you probably already know, it's a brain chemical that helps keep us happy.
Best wishes to your lovely garden. _ joy

My only secret for staying cool is - air conditioning .  It got up in the 90's here today too !  I watered this evening about 9 and it had cooled down enough outside to enjoy being out.  Just take it slow and easy in the heat .  ' On Ya' - ma

Hi Sandra,
Your yard looks just lovely!  I am making a crochet granny square blanket very slowly... I started some other projects and haven't gotten back to it in ages though.  Sounds like your afghan will be done long before mine.  We had a few tomatos from my lone tomato plant and they were so good.  I hope to have more this year.  Always nice stopping by your journal.
Hugs,
Lisa
