Florida Hurricane

The hurricane is over in Orlando and my son Mike and Teri his wife made it safe and sound. I was talking to Mike on his cell phone ~ he was in the closet~ when the storm was over his house. A lot of shingles came off his roof and the fence in 4 sections was torn down and the large tree in front has branches that have to be sawed off(it was bent over almost to the ground and it lost all the leaves)  and his banana tree lost 3 main branches just before they were going to pick 3 bunches of bananas too. he is hoping they ripen in the house... Then they lost the electricity and since they just had gotten a bunch of groceries they are looking for ice but the stores they went to so far aren't open because the registers aren't working.... Now they say 2 more will be probably following the same path next week after 40 some years of not having a hurricane in the area... So many people have it much worse than Mike and Teri , especially those in that trailer park so we are lucky Mike and Teri are fine and all their belongings are safe. Teri's van was parked 5 feet away from a tree that fell  and damaged about 10 other cars. Mike saw a transformer blow up and the blue light was so bright it hurt his eyes.
After it was over the neighbors got together outside and talked about it into the night...

Glad Mike and Teri are ok.  My Aunt and Uncle are in Jacksonville, a bit to the north.  THey evacuated, not knowing what would occur.  It can get dangerous in a hurry.  It all seem to happen so fast!

I am so thankful they are okay!  You must have been going crazy!!!  I know that feeling...I have some very VERY close friends that live and were also hit hard by Charley and I have yet to hear from them, but I'm sure they're alright  I'm also concerned about those other systems that are out there.  Florida sure doesn't need another hurricane.  I don't live too far from the gulf in Alabama myself; I'm a newbee to the area so this is a new and scary experience to me.  Anymore, the Weather Channel is on 24/7.  Keep us posted on how your family is doing.

Be blessed, Trina

So glad your family is safe and sound.  Hurricane Charley passed over us minutes after Orlando.  We are northeast of where Mike and Teri are.  We are so thankful God was protecting us.  Sure do enjoy your journal.  It was definitely a happy day the morning after Charley just to be alive.  I know some lost family and homes and we mourn for those.  Now we have to pick up the pieces here in Central Florida and deal with the damage everywhere we look: trees down, people still waiting for power to be restored.  Ours came back on within 24 hours as our home has underground wiring due to new construction laws since Hugo came thru back in the 80's.  We don't have any damage at all to our home because our angels did a super job, but so many do around here.  We've run out of gasoline as everyone is using it for chainsaws and generators and literally convoys of trucks coming from other states to help us restore power and get things cleaned up.  So thankful for their help.  No school this week.  Neighbors are all much closer now and everyone has an attitude of caring and kindness and appreciation for the gift of life.  From Lisa in Central Florida
